weight:447g This connecting rod is a titanium connecting rod used in the sixth cylinder of the 1.5-liter V6 twin-turbo engine (Tipo 021) of the "126CK," Ferrari's first F1 turbo car introduced in 1981.
In 1981, Ferrari struggled with the "126CK," which, despite its power, was heavy and suffered from tremendous turbo lag.
However, legendary driver Gilles Villeneuve, with his unparalleled driving technique, tamed the machine.
He achieved a miraculous victory on the narrow street circuit of the Monaco Grand Prix, the first ever for a turbo car, and then in the following Spanish Grand Prix, he perfectly blocked the four cars behind him, achieving a legendary winning streak.
The rugged details of this connecting rod, such as its "extra-thick H-section" and the "castle nut (grooved nut)" that firmly fastens the big end, are characteristic of the early turbo era, designed to withstand the shock of the extreme boost pressure and abnormal combustion of the time.
Literally supporting the raging turbo power beneath its feet, and racing through the circuit alongside Gilles' indomitable fighting spirit, this connecting rod is more than just an engine part. It is an extremely rare and romantic historical artifact that conveys the fervor of the "turbulent 1980s turbo era" that dramatically changed the history of F1. |
